Poll Begins in India's Lok Sabha Elections

����The first phase of polling began on September 5 morning in 145 Lok Sabha constituencies and 343 assembly seats.

����Indian President K. R. Narayanan cast his vote in the capital to exercise his franchise in the Lok Sabha elections.

����The president, accompanied by his daughter Chira Mohan, cast the vote in a school inside the President's Estate soon after the voting began at 0700 hours local time, a presidential spokesman said.

����The spokesman said, "as a first citizen, the president felt it was his right and duty to cast his vote, which he did without any fanfare."
