Kudos for China's National Day Military Parade Participants

The armed forces participating in China's National Day military parade on October 1 have received a commendation from President Jiang Zemin, Chairman of the Central Military Commission.

Jiang said that the troops passing in review displayed the new look of a powerful, civilized and triumphant military, and demonstrated the capability of China's military forces to defend the safety and unity of the country and its determination to safeguard world peace and promote development.

The National Day parade, the largest in the past half a century, featured advanced weapons and equipment and the highest level of mechanization, involving 11,000 soldiers in 17 ground phalanxes and 25 vehicles formations, and ten echelons consisting of 132 warplanes.

The circular, issued on October 1, also calls for PLA members to learn from the reviewed troops, and apply their successful experience to the army construction, so as to improve the army's defense and combat effectiveness.

All the PLA members should be ready to fight for defending the national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and fulfilling the reunification of China, it stresses. (Xinhua)
