BJP-led NDA to Form New Government in India

����The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), winning a clear majority in the 13th Lok Sabha elections, is preparing to form a new government.

����The new government will be under the prime ministership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who will take charge for the third time in four years.

����As of 18:00 hours local time Thursday, the BJP and its allies had won 286 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats and were leading for another eight seats.

����On the other hand, Congress and its allies won 129 seats and were ahead for another six, while the left alliance claimed 42 seats and other parties secured 61 seats.

����Home Minister L.K. Advani told reporters that the newly-elected MPs of the alliance will meet Sunday to formally elect Vajpayee as the leader of the combined parliamentary party and the election result will be communicated to President K. R. Narayanan on Monday.

����Under the Indian Constitution, the new government should be formed before October 10. (Xinhua)
