South Korea Beats Bahrain in Olympic Qualifier

A second-half goal from Lee Dong Gook gave the visiting South Koreans a 1-0 victory over Bahrain in an Asian Olympic soccer qualifier in Manama, Bahrain on October 17.

After a goalless first half, Lee scored from close range nine minutes into the second half after some dazzling passes in the front from the South Koreans.

Bahrain also had chances in both halves but several of their attempts were foiled by the South Korean goalie who produced stable performance throughout the match.

South Korea consolidated their lead in group B with six points from two victories, followed by China with three points from one win and one loss.

Winless Bahrain was virtually eliminated since only the winner of the three-team group qualifies for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
