China Vietnamese Leadership Message on 50th Anniversary of Sino-Vietnam Ties

Party and state leaders of Vietnam send a message of congratulation recently to General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Chinaand President of the People's Republic of China Jiang Zemin, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China Li Peng and Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji on the 50anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations of the two countries.

The message was sent by General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Le Kha Phieu, State President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tran Duc Luong, Prime Minister of Vietnamese Government Phan Van Khai and Chairman of Vietnam's National Assembly Nong Duc Manh.

The message said that Vietnam is pleased to see the rapid and smooth development of bilateral relationship in the 1990s. Last year, it added, the friendship and cooperation between the two parties and two countries scaled new height, especially with Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu and Chinese President Jiang Zemin agreeing on building a new framework of "long-term, stable and good-neighborly relations with comprehensive cooperation oriented to the future", and with both sides reaching understanding about many important issues during Premier Zhu Rongji's visit to Vietnam.

The message stressed that the signing of the treaty of land border between China and Vietnam on December 30, 1999, was a new major event, creating favorable conditions for them to promote cooperation in all fields and build the border into a peaceful, friendly one.

The message said that the Vietnamese party, state and people always attach importance to the traditional good-neighborly relationship with China, and are going to work for its consolidation and development in the basic interests of the two people and beneficial to the regional and global peace, stability, cooperation and development.
