Sports China Taipei Scores First Goal Against China in Eleven Years

The Chinese women soccer team defeated the China Taipei women soccer team 5-1 in a friendly match in Taipei January 18.

Although the China Taipei team didn't win, they scored a goal, breaking the string of shutouts for eleven consecutive years. Lin Qiyi, who kicked in the goal, won 100,000 New Taiwan dollars for her effort.

China's women soccer team first played China Taipei in 1989. In the eight times they have met, China's women soccer team has never lost to China Taipei.

Ma Yuanan, coach of the women team, said that this match was a good opportunity to use newer players and warm up for the Sidney Olympics.

China women soccer team is Taiwan for one week and will play China Taipei again January 20 and 22.
