The policy of 72-hour transit visa exemption for foreigners took effect at Xi'an Xianyang International Airport as of June 1, 2014.
Foreigners from 51 countries including Austria, Russia, the United States, Canada, Australia, South Korea, and Japan with valid international travel documents and interline air ticket for a third country (region) with confirmed flight date and seat are permitted to stay in the administrative precincts of Xi'an and Xianyang for 72 hours.
Xi'an has become the first city in northwestern China, or the eighth city in China, that was granted permission to implement the policy of 72-hour transit visa exemption for foreign nationals.
