BRUSSELS, June 27 -- European Union (EU) leaders decided on Friday to nominate Jean-Claude Juncker as next European Commission president at the summit held Friday in Brussels.
The president of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy said on his official twitter: "Decision made. The European Council proposes Jean-Claude Juncker as the next President of the European Commission."
Juncker was the lead candidate of the strongest political group- European People's Party (EPP). According to the latest provisional results, EPP group led the 2014 European Parliament elections, gaining 221 out of a total of 751 seats, followed by the S&D group that garnered 191 seats.
