An old man refusing to give back a Buddhist Statue faces forced action from a court in Beijing, reported by Xinhua News on Monday.

A Beijing resident, identified only as Zhang, recently took away a Guanyin Statue from the Tiankai Temple, promising to return the statue after 3 months.

After weeks of praying, Zhang came to believe that the Goddess made her presence in his home through the statue and had been protecting his family since then. Consequently, Zhang is refusing to return the statue to the temple as promised.

Tiankai Temple took legal action against the old man after repeated failing to retrieve the statue. The court ruled after the first trial that Zhang had to give the statue back.

Despite the verdict, Zhang is still refusing to return the statue. The temple has applied for a forced execution of the verdict delivered by the court.
