"Should we offer seats to elders in public transportation during rush hours?" is a hot topic among netizens.

Jiang Huilin, a Chongqing citizen, found out that every day an old man in his sixties carried a small stool to the Light Rail Line 3 and sit in the corner of the car. The elder behaved naturally and no other passengers showed any interest in him.

One day, Jiang Huilin overheard the elder talked with his friend, who said that it was inconvenient to carry a stool every day. However, the elder said: "It's nothing. Young people all work very hard, and they should have seats. I am quite at ease to sit on my own stool."

"I am touched, so I took a picture of him secretly," said Jiang Huilin. After she posted the picture online, a hot debate was triggered.

Chongqing Evening News managed to contact the elder, whose name is Tang Tianming, 60. He works in a cleaning company and commute by light rail every day. As a worker, he said: "I understand the hardship of working. Young people and elders should take care of each other. I carry a stool of my own, so young people don't need to give their seat to me."

Chongqing Evening News conducted an online survey among 359 light rail passengers on Aug. 25. 327 respondents support Mr. Tang's behavior and don't take it as a moral issue. However, 32 respondents feel sad for him, and call for young people giving more care to elders.
