Chinese Premier Li Keqiang recently pledged to make more government services available online in order to improve efficiency and reach a greater number of people.

In the government work report delivered on Saturday, Li proposed “Internet Plus government services” aiming to promote better information sharing between government departments, and help public and businesses get things done more convenient than before .

"Sometimes we have to visit several different government departments to get one thing done," said Chen Zhilie, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Board Chairman of EVOC Intelligent, a high-tech company.

By adopting the “Internet Plus government services” model, the increasing demand for public services can be met both online and offline.

"With online access, especially the government’s big data sharing platform, enterprises can reduce costs after gaining a clear understanding of government procedures," Chen added.

What’s more, the open online process will help better build a more transparent, open government.

Bao Zhongjun, Vice President of ZTE, believes that sharing information will help eliminate redundant departmental duties .

Smart Ningxia, an exhibition in Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in western China, has already put this model into practice.

The center now produces data studies in eight fields, such as government affairs and social insurance, which are then used to aid the government in policy-making.

Li praised the model when he visited the center on February 2. After checking data on poverty-alleviation and salary payments to rural migrants, he commented that “the Internet Plus” tool should be adopted for the sake of “smarter” government services.
