China Mobile nets 330 million yuan per day in first half of 2016

China Mobile, China's leading telecommunications service provider, pubished its 2016 interim report on Thursday. The telecommunications giant netted 330 million yuan ($49.7 million) each day in the first half of 2016, according to the data.

The company's operating revenue reached 370.4 billion yuan in the first half of the year, up by 7.1 percent compared to the same period last year. Its profitability also outperformed that of its industry peers, with profit attributable to equity shareholders reaching 60.6 billion yuan, representing an increase of 5.6 percent.

Another notable detail of the report is that wireless data traffic revenue for the first time exceeded traditional business, and is now the company's biggest revenue source. Data traffic revenue in the first half of 2016 reached 195 billion yuan, posting a 26.7 percent increase from the same period last year. Handset data traffic increased by 133.9 percent year on year, while wireless data traffic revenue increased by 39.7 percent, contributing to 43.3 percent of the total telecommunications service revenue.

In order to improve the coverage of its network, China Mobile added over 200,000 4G base stations, increasing its total number of 4G base stations to 1.32 million. In addition, the monthly average net increase of 4G customers in the first half of 2016 was over 19 million, pushing the total number of China Mobile's 4G customers to 429 million.
