BEIJING, Nov. 1 -- China will dispatch 925 peacekeepers to South Sudan and the Darfur region of Sudan in December for one year on a UN peacekeeping mission.

A 700-member infantry battalion, the third batch to be deployed in Juba, capital of South Sudan, will depart in mid-December, and an engineering regiment consisting of 225 troops, the 13th batch to be sent to the Darfur region of Sudan, will leave in late December.

In July, two Chinese peacekeepers were killed and five others were injured during their peacekeeping mission in Juba.

China now has more than 2,000 peacekeepers on serving on UN missions in nine regions, including South Sudan, the Darfur region of Sudan, Mali and Liberia.
