Railway officer sticks to her post, keeps passengers safe

Gao Weiting, a railway police officer on train K691 between Hohhot and Kunming, takes very seriously her responsibility to maintain public security, deal with fires and handle any other emergencies on the road, Tencent News reported.

Gao is knowledgeable about the performance and structure of various firearms and how to use them. She can assemble or disassemble a gun within 15 seconds, and can accurately shoot a firearm within two seconds.

For many, the repetitive task of inspecting firefighting equipment, barometers and lighting circuits are boring, but Gao is always serious about her work.

“Wearing the police uniform means taking responsibility for protecting passengers,” said Gao, who has helped to crack nearly 100 criminal cases in past 10 years, winning a number of awards from the Hohhot Railway Public Security Bureau.

Gao will travel 48,800 kilometers during the Spring Festival travel period from Jan. 13 to Feb. 21, each time back and forth between Kunming and Hohhot. In total, her journey will be even longer than the distance required to circle the equator.
