Beijing has set its annual economic growth at 6.5 percent in the year of 2018, which is expected slightly below the 6.7 percent achieved in 2017, said acting mayor Chen Jining at the opening of the municipal people’s congress on Wednesday.

Delivering a work report, Chen looked back at the achievements of the capital city during the past five years and focused on the efforts to realize the “two centennial goals.”

A profound transformation of the capital’s development pattern was on top of Beijing achievements in the past five years, said Chen.

The report tackles major development goals for Beijing in 2018 in terms of economics, urban planning, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regional development, science, environment, culture and people’s welfare.

The growth rate of gross domestic products (GDP) of Beijing is expected to reach 6.5 percent in 2018, so as to the increase of general public budget, said Chen, adding that the capital aims to curb the fluctuation of consumers consumption index within 3 percent.

To improve people’s livelihood, the capital city will construct more new kindergartens, allocate 1,200 hectors of residence-use land, construct 2,900,000 square meters of housing projects and create 360,000 new jobs.

Besides, the capital city will implement the detailed planning of the city’s sub-center construction and speed up the building of gyms for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, said the report.
