Two people, who were not students, were shot Tuesday morning at an elementary school in the U.S. central state of Kansas, according to local police. 

The incident took place at Sunrise Elementary School in Overland Park, a suburb of Kansas City, the two men who were shot are contractors working at a playground outside the school.

Overland Park police confirmed that the two victims are in critical condition.

The suspect, identified as a fellow contractor, reportedly opened fire after a dispute with the victims.

No children were hurt in the incident.

The suspect has carjacked an SUV after the shooting and fled the scene, the police are in active search for the suspect.
