A 5G-based information superhighway network has been built and put into operation for the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019, which will open in late April in Yanqing district, Beijing.

Visitors can pilot a drone, watch 8K HD videos, experience self-driving technology and other 5G network applications in the 5G exhibition hall, said Guo Ziliang, deputy director of the Information Department of the Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition Coordination Bureau.

5G terminals will also be unveiled in the exhibition hall. Visitors will be able to experience fast download speeds and minimal delays on their smartphones.

The construction of information and communications technology infrastructure for the exhibition has been completed, including 12 large base stations, 74 micro base stations and 114 smart lampposts both inside and outside the exhibition park, said Fan Xiaoqing, Beijing Branch general manager of China Tower, the world’s biggest operator of mobile phone towers.

So far, 11 exhibition halls have already received full 5G coverage.
