A surgical robot independently developed by China has entered a clinical trial phase, Guangming Daily reported on Dec 3.

The robot, named “Miaoshou S”, was jointly developed by Tianjin University, Central South University and Shandong Weigao Group Medical Polymer Company Limited, based in east China’s Shandong province.

The robot can assist doctors with surgical procedures and help improve the quality of surgeries. The system allows the chief surgeon to conduct a surgery entirely by operating a console instead of making a cut and operating directly on the patient.

The minimally invasive robot is able to accurately transmit the surgeon's movements to the robotic arms via remote control, while the robotic arms operate on the patient to complete the surgery.

One of the unique advantages of the robot is that it can rotate 360 degrees, while human arms can't, making surgeries even more precise. Meanwhile, the image display screen installed on the robot provides a wider view of the surgery to the surgeon, helping improve the quality of the surgery.
