A symphony concert was staged at the Changsha Concert Hall on the evening of December 12, which raised the curtain on the 2019 Changsha Azalea Arts Month.

The concert was conducted by violinist and conductor Chai Liang, and performed by the Changsha Symphony Orchestra. Piano player Zhang Haiou served as soloist. During the concert, the orchestra played Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, Austrian composer Franz von Suppé’s Light Cavalry Overture, Johann Strauss II’s Voices of Spring - Waltz, Josef Strauss’s Pizzicato Polka, and Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture. Their excellent performances won warm applause from the audience.

The Changsha Azalea Arts Month has been held for seven consecutive years. This year’s arts month is hosted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee and the Changsha Municipal Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio and Television. It will mainly launch non-profit cultural activities, as well as some commercial performances with preferential tickets. Nine main activities will be held during the arts month between December 12, 2019 and January 13, 2020, including the opening ceremony, art performances, opera competitions, art lectures, exhibitions, and the closing ceremony and award ceremony.
