Indian PM Modi calls for reduction of economic hardships amid COVID-19 pandemic

NEW DELHI, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Participating in the G20 Extraordinary Leaders' Summit on COVID-19 on Thursday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the need to work together to reduce economic hardships resulting from COVID-19 outbreak, particularly for the economically weak.

According to an official statement issued by India's Ministry of External Affairs, Modi underscored the need to put human beings at the center of the vision of global prosperity and cooperation, share the benefits of medical research and development, develope adaptive, responsive and humane health care systems, promote new crisis management protocols and procedures for an interconnected global village, strengthen and reform intergovernmental organizations, and work together to reduce economic hardships resulting from COVID-19.

The Indian PM also called on the G20 leaders to help usher in a new globalization, for the collective well-being of humankind and have multilateral fora focus on promoting the shared interests of humanity.

Comprising 19 countries plus the European Union, the G20 members account for about two thirds of the entire human population and some 86 percent of the gross world product.
