Foreign reporters eye Tibetan issues at Congress (2)

Delegates of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) from Tibet Autonomous Region take questions from 150 reporters from home and abroad after a group discussion on Nov.9 in Beijing. ,

More than 150 journalists from 70 media from home and abroad, including from Reuters, the Associated Press, Agence France-Presse and People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, CCTV attended the conference.

The delegates answered questions about policies concerning farmers and herdsmen, government’s future supportive investment and policies on career and social welfare.

Questions which foreign media looked to were also answered. When answering the question of self-immolation, Losang Gyaltsen, vice-chairman of the region, condemned the activity of inciting people to self-immolate, saying that it's a "crime of murder" in accordance with Chinese law.

"We believe that this (inciting people to self-immolate) is contrary to human common sense and morality," he said.

Qiangba Puncog, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Tibet People's Congress, criticized some overseas media for describing Tibet as "burning".

"The media should neither support nor encourage self-immolation," he said on the sidelines of the congress. Innocent people should not sacrifice their lives to fulfill the political motives of others, he said.
