The world's longest high-speed railway linking Beijing and Guangzhou starts operation on Dec. 26, 2012. China opened the world's longest high-speed railway which links Beijing and the southern economic center of Guangzhou on Dec. 26. Running at an average speed of 300 kilometers per hour, the 2,298-kilometer-long Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed railway will cut travel time between the two cities to about 8 hours.
