Zhu Xueyuan was born in Changchun in 1986. Her vision started to decline from middle school but she graduated from Changchun Univeristy with a degree in special education.

Zhu started to learn instant recording in 2010, and became the first instant recorder with visual impairment in China.

Zhu said the job gave her social status, but more importantly it helped her to realize her worth to society.
