200,000-odd college students have registered for the summer-and-autumn pre-conscription

Geng Yansheng stated that with the approval of the State Council and the Central Military Commission (CMC), starting from 2013, the national conscription will be held in summer and autumn, instead of winter as usual.

Linking up the conscription time with the student's graduation time will be conducive to enlisting more high-quality youth into military services, upgrading the overall quality of the troops and soldiers from the very source.

With the conscription time adjusted, it can better meet the wish of more youth of the right age to join the military service and to serve the country. At the same time, it will help the recruits better adapt themselves to the military, and thus improve the quality and efficiency of military training.

According to Geng Yansheng, 200,000-plus college students have already taken part in the pre-conscription registration. Recruitment of college students has already commenced in those large and medium cities, such as Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and others. The national conscription will be in full swing from August 1, and youth are warmly welcomed to join the military, he said.
