Construction of new Sino-US relations

In June Chinese president Xi Jinping met with President Obama, at the invitation of the United States, on the Annenberg estate. The two sides reached an important consensus on the construction of new relations among major powers. Over the past year, President Xi has met twice with President Obama, and Vice President Biden has visited China. China will build a new type of relationship with the United States with increased cooperation leading to positive results. Among major power relationships, Sino-US relations are expected to experience consistent strengthening .

On China's relationships with its neighbors, Wang said that China will consolidate friendships and establish a "community of shared fate ". After taking office, Chinese president Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang made a series of visits to neighboring countries. Exchanges at leadership level have taken place with 21 neighboring countries.

Strengthening cooperation with developing countries

Developing countries are at the core of China's diplomacy. This year Mr Xi has visited three African countries and met with more than ten African leaders. He has also visited three Latin American countries and signed 24 cooperation documents, and has held bilateral talks with the respective leaders of the G-8.

Role of a responsible major country

China has played an active role in seeking a political solution to the Syrian issue and in urging Iran to reach an agreement with six countries. A concerted effort is being made to ease tensions on the Korean peninsula and to support the process of peace and reconstruction in Afghanistan. China has also put forward plans to address climate change and other global issues.

Peace and stability in the South China Sea

Over the past year, we have responded to violations of China’s territorial sovereignty, and illegal acts that strike against interests of China and its maritime rights. China has started negotiations with the ASEAN countries under the aegis of the “South China Sea Code of Conduct”. China has reached agreements with Brunei and Vietnam on maritime cooperation on promoting common development and maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea.
