An Indonesian senior religious figure said on Tuesday that Indonesian capital is scheduled to host a four-day Asian Muslim and Christian Leaders Conference this month, expected to be attended by religious figures from 15 countries.
The conference, themed "A Common Word to Common Action for Justice", is slated to be held from Feb. 26 to March 1, would be attended by 150 delegates from 15 Asian countries.
Hasyim Muzadi, secretary general of International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS), said that the conference was aimed at encouraging and increasing interpersonal relations between Muslim and Christian religious figures.
"So that they can be more opened in conducting joint actions addressed at social fairness problems and in overcoming economy and social conflicts," Hasyim said here.
The conference is co-organized by ICIS in cooperation with Indonesian Church Council (KWI), Association of Indonesian Churches (PGI), supported by Federation of Asian Bhisop Conference (FABC) and Christian Conference of Asia (CCA). The ICIS has been conducting international Muslim scholars conference three times. The interfaith conference would be the first to have been conducted by the organization.
He said that the conference would also discuss religious tolerance, adding that Indonesia would explain its stance towards religious tolerance in the event following allegation that religious intolerance among religion followers in Indonesia has been declining.
The allegation came up following sectarian conflicts between Muslim and Christianity followers occurred in several areas across the country in the last few years.
Hasyim said the conflicts were not incited by religious fanaticism, but by injustice, social, political and economy factors developing among the society.
