ALMATY, June 5 (Xinhua) -- A ministerial conference on refugee and migration problems in Central Asia started here Wednesday, with attending countries pledging to promote communication and cooperation on the issue.

The "Second Ministerial Conference on Refugee Protection and Mixed Migration: Almaty Process" conference is organized and financed by Kazakhstan's government, with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Attending countries agreed to promote regional dialogue and strengthen cooperation on migration to facilitate regular movements, while ensure protection and respect for human rights and access to asylum.

One of the goals of the conference is to summarize the progress achieved since the last ministerial conference in 2011, and to coordinate priorities and main objectives for the next two years, drawing from the Almaty declaration.

A key focus is to increase the capacity of Central Asian countries in the fields of refugee protection and international migration, including border control and data collection, differentiated processes and procedures for various moving groups and preparedness for emergencies and mass inflow situations.

Moreover, the Almaty Process operational mechanism will be accepted and the development of a regional cooperation framework with 12 participating states will be continued.
