Hundreds of thousands march in support of gay rights in Chicago

CHICAGO, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of thousands of people marched in Chicago Sunday as part of the city's 44th annual gay pride parade.

This event is held on the heels of a Supreme Court decision last week that reversed a ban on gay marriage in California and also announced that gay and lesbian couples are constitutionally entitled to receive federal benefits.

Although 37 U.S. states still do not allow gay marriage, many proponents of gay rights hope to see the success in California repeated.
