Dow rises for fifth straight session on optimistic economic data

NEW YORK, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Dow Jones Industrial Average closed higher for a fifth consecutive session Thursday on upbeat economic data, though Apple dragged on stocks.

The Dow almost rallied 0.3 percent, and the Standard & Poor's 500-stock Index was flat while the Nasdaq Composite Index lost 0.7 percent.
