The Beijing delegation and its women’s rugby team issued a letter of apology on Tuesday night for the team’s uninspired play at the 12th China’s National Games on Tuesday afternoon.

The letter says: the Beijing delegation had an urgent meeting after the game during which they reviewed and self-examined the team’s improper behaviors. The people responsible will be subject to severe punishment after thorough investigation. The team’s passive play tarnished Beijing’s image and brought negative influence on rugby’s development in China as well as on the ongoing National Games.

In the letter, Beijing delegation said they respect the punishment by the organizing committee, and would sincerely treat criticism from society and correct their improper behavior. The letter also urged all the athletes of Beijing delegation to learn a lesson, and to respect referee, opponents and spectators.

Beijing women’s rugby team said in the letter that their impulse and improper acts resulted in negative influence in society and failed to live up to society’s expectation. They wanted to sincerely apologize to people in all walks of life.
