Along with the tragic loss of life in Saturday’s earthquake that hit Lushan in China’s Sichuan Province, a total of 102 cultural relic sites were also damaged.

The earthquake hit 12 museums, with a total of 274 artefacts affected. Reports say that non moveable relics that were restored following the 2008 earthquake are generally intact with minor damage in certain places.

China’s Bureau of Cultural Relics has promised to continue to verify the situation stating that once conditions permit, they will send special personnel to conduct a field survey.
