Kucong people are native residents in China's Yunnan Province. They live in forests of the Ailao Mountains and Wuliang Mountains about 1,800 meters above sea level. In August 1987, Kongcong people are included in Lahu ethnic group under the approval of Yunnan Provincial People's Government.

Papermaking is an ancient folk craftsmanship in Zhenyuan County in Yunnan Province. "Mayang" paper is a kind of handmade paper mainly used in funerals and worship activities. Kucong people use a kind of local wild bamboo as raw materials to make the paper. It takes about two months to complete a batch of paper, with 72 procedures involved.
