New All-China Women's Federation president elected

BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Shen Yueyue has been elected president of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), according to a statement released after a meeting of its executive council on Tuesday.

Shen, also a vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress, will replace Chen Zhili, the statement said.

Praising Chen's contribution to women and their roles, Shen urged various ACWF organizations and their officials to serve the country's women wholeheartedly and lead them to help build a moderately prosperous society.

Vice President Li Yuanchao, also present at the meeting, called on the federation to focus on grassroots work and make concrete efforts to protect women and children's interests.
