THE government of eastern China's Shandong Province today reported the first H7N9 case in the province.

The patient is a 36-year-old man and he's currently being treated in isolation in a hospital in the Zaoyang City, said the provincial center for disease control and prevention.

Nine of his close contacts are now under close medical observations and have so far showed no flu symptoms, said the medical authority.

The patient was announced as a suspected case of bird flu yesterday and the result was confirmed today with completion of a lab test by the provincial CDC.
