BUCHAREST, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- The upcoming China-Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) leader' meeting represents an extraordinary opportunity for Romania to develop both relations with China and its regional partners, Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta told a press conference on Wednesday.

According to Ponta, the meeting would be the second of the kind after the first edition was held in Warsaw in the spring of last year.

"It is a political meeting at the highest level and the fact that Bucharest and Romania's government are organizers represents an extraordinary opportunity to develop both our relations with China and our regional relations," said the prime minister.

He said countries participating in the meeting will assess the implementing the proposals of cooperation established in Warsaw, and will identify cooperation projects in areas such as energy, agriculture, infrastructure, transports, IT and tourism.

The meeting of leaders will be followed by another major event, Ponta said, namely the China-CEE Economic & Trade Forum.

He said around 1,000 business people have confirmed their participation, including 300 from China, 400 from Romania and 300 from the other CEE countries.

The prime minister also said a significant number of memorandums and agreements would be signed between China and Romania on "the political declaration, letters of intent in the energy area, the sanitary-veterinary area, in the cultural collaboration area and a series of trade contracts." Other bilateral meetings of leaders are also on the schedule.

Earlier, Ponta stressed at the beginning of a government meeting that the China-CEE summit and the business forum is one of the biggest political and economic events ever to be hosted in the country.
