People go through a body scanner at a metro station on May 26, 2014. A body scanner has been set up at the Bajiao Amusement Park subway station on Line 1 in western Beijing. Body scanners were installed and put to use at this station, Tiantongyuan North station on Line 5 and Longze station of Line 13, in an effort to beef up security on the capital's subway lines amid the heightened concerns over terrorism. Subway passengers in Beijing will have to face security check at three more stations starting Saturday morning as a new measure was launched to beef up subway security.

Previously, only personal belongings needed to be checked when passengers entered a subway station.

In January 2014, Beijing Subway required that passengers should also go through security check at six stations, all near the Tiananmen Square in central Beijing.
