Tongguan Ancient Town

Tongguan ancient town is located in the north of Wangcheng District of Changsha City, on the east bank of the Xiangjiang River. Since the Tang Dynasty, Tongguan has also been called Taodu (Pottery Capital), being famous for its ceramics. As early as 1,300 years ago at the end of the Sui Dynasty and the beginning of the Tang Dynasty, a large official kiln appeared in Tongguan Town, namely, the still well-preserved "Changsha Tongguan Kiln". Here is the birthplace of the colorful underglaze ceramic of the world, known as a milestone in the history of ceramics. Its products were sold to 29 countries and regions.

For a thousand year, the kiln fire kept burning without stop. It opened the precedent of underglaze ceramics for the world, innovated the porcelain decoration with poetry, paintings and calligraphy, let the porcelain culture melt into the world culture, and opened up the “Marine Road of Ceramics”, with its products being sold to 29 countries and regions. As the birthplace of underglaze ceramic, it was one of the five major pottery capitals of China.
