Xu Haojun, a media officer from Beidadi firefighting department, Fengtai district, told the Global Times Wednesday they had attended at least three out-of-control fires recently.
"Some trash dumpsters were burnt in residential communities. Although the tradition needs to be respected, people should be really careful about where they choose to burn and avoid doing this on days with strong wind," said Xu.
Four fire trucks were sent to a fire at a home on the East Fifth Ring Road on April 4, caused when people burnt money for Tomb Sweeping Day, reported Chinanews.cn in April.
Hu Yin, a 29-year-old from Chaoyang district, said his family went to his grandma's last weekend to send fake money for winter clothes to his grandfather and other ancestors.
"There were a lot of families doing it along the road. People at the road entrance outside the community," he said.
"It's our family's tradition, and it doesn't matter if I believe in it or not," said Hu.
