Pushy parents turn matchmaking events into ‘marriage fairs’ (17)

People's Daily Online)  08:18, July 10, 2013

Regularly in parks across the city, for example Shanghai People's Park, parents gather in their thousands to find dates for their children. They display their homemade laminated signs with the important information of their children, like income and education, and search for a suitable match.

The woman’s mother asked the man whether it was late for home and would he have dinner with his parents at home. The young man replied that he took the highway and would be home in an hour. The girl’s mother added that the community she lived in had very small parking lots and the parking fee was 5 yuan a day.

The loving dialogue is of no chat but connotations. “Parking fee” and “limited parking area” suggests that the girl’s family lives in an apartment built in 1980s. “Taking the highway” and “an hour’s drive” indicated the young man lives in middle-ranged community uptown.
