The “Hyuga” and “Iseshi” helicopter destroyers are the No. 1 and No. 2 vessels of the “Hyuga” class helicopter destroyer, the largest destroyer class in Japan. The “Hyuga” is 197 m long and 33 m wide, with a standard displacement of 13,500 tons, greater than any other class of destroyer in Japan, and even surpassing the light aircraft carriers of some countries. Its hangar is able to house a maximum payload of 11 helicopters.

“Osumi” class landing ship transport: The “Osumi” class landing ship transport has a complete deck with a length of 120 m and a width of 23 m, and a standard displacement of about 9,000 tons. It can carry a maximum payload of 6 helicopters. The first “Osumi” class ship was formally brought into service in 1998. According to military analysts, this was the launch-pad for the construction of a Japanese aircraft carrier after WWII. There are three “Osumi” class ships in service.

“Oumi” support tender and “Mashu” support tender: These two ships are of the same class, with a standard displacement of 13,500 tons. Compared with the “Osumi” class, they have a larger displacement and display more obvious characteristics of an aircraft carrier, as well as a greater aviation capacity, being equipped with the strength to carry 8 shipboard aircraft, plus hangars with the space to allow two simultaneous helicopter take-offs or landings.
