The number of overseas users of WeChat, China's mobile messaging application has exceeded 70 million, a marked rise from the 50 million in May, according to Tencent, China's largest Internet company.
WeChat (Wei Xin, in Chinese) is one of China's most popular massaging apps, developed by Tencent company. It has over 400 million registered users, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
"WeChat has successfully entered South Asia markets, such as India, Thailand and Malaysia," said Martin Lau, Tencent president on Wenesday.
As part of the new global campaign, Tencet has released a TV commercial featuring Argentina football star Lionel Messi at a partners' meeting in Beijing.
Lau also pledged to further develop Tencent's presence outside the Chinese mainland.
"We see the mobile Internet industry as the biggest chance to take our business abroad," said Lau. "Tencent is ready to enter the world stage."
