Suspected arson kills 7 in east China

NANCHANG, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Seven people, including four children, were killed on Tuesday in a suspected arson in east China's Jiangxi Province, firefighters said.

Fire was spotted at 3:45 a.m. at a villager's home in Longgang Village, Longgang Township in Shicheng County in the city of Ganzhou, an officer with the city's fire department said.

Among the dead were a family of six, including a couple and their four children, and an unidentified person who was believed to have started the fire, the officer said.

The ages of the children are not yet known.

The fire ripped through an area of 100 square meters in three rooms of the family's home.

Police are investigating.
