Public Response to “Sunshine Project” (8)

(People's Daily Online)

17:57, January 05, 2013

Zhou Bingjian (Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Jurisprudence Daily):
The “Sunshine Project” is not merely a government function, but in fact, a social issue, which needs to be solved with people’s mutual attention, concern, efforts, and even legislations. Hence, we should reinforce the local legislation of Guizhou Province.

Zhang Yuguang (Deputy Director of Study Department of People’s Police):
Personally, I don’t take a positive attitude towards drug abuse and drug rehabilitation, as it is a thorny problem closely related to the crisis with the spiritual world and beliefs of human beings; therefore, it must be a long-term problem. But, from the “Sunshine Project” I did learn some bright spot, for example, something fresh and new on social management innovation. The “Sunshine Project” is definitely affirmative, as it gives the drug addicts a sense of belonging.

Xue Jianhua (Executive Vice President and Chief Editor of Hong Kong TV International Communication Group):
The “Sunshine Project” in Guizhou Province is amazing, as the government has adopted numerous humanized approaches, and input so much manpower and capital funds. The government is trying to save the drug addicts in every possible means... we should take this issue from the cause of human rights. For great cause like this can be written in the Chinese annual report on human rights.

Tian Bingxin (President of Hong Kong Sing Pao Press)
The government of Guizhou Province has done a good thing, which is very difficult to be done. After being freed from prison, detention centers and drug treatment centers, they will have a place to receive them. I think the “Sunshine Project” is a pioneering work. There are many countries in the world flaunting human rights, but none of their government has spent time or money to do such a thing. In other words, there are no other countries treat this group of people like this. We marked the beginning of the project, and we will engage in it for long.
